Replacement construction of a road bridge in Vöhl-Asel

Road bridge over the TersluisBlock girder bridge as the entrance to the national park

Description

The Hessian state agency HessenForst and the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park planned to replace a road bridge in Vöhl in the district of Asel. The bridge served as an important link between the K32 district road and the nearby hiking car park and acted as a ‘gateway’ to the popular tourist destination of the national park and the nearby Edersee lake. Due to its dilapidated condition, the existing bridge was temporarily restricted to lower loads and was ultimately closed to motor vehicle traffic altogether by massive boulders.

The new bridge is intended to restore the original function and, in addition to tourist traffic, also carry forestry vehicles weighing up to 12 tonnes. An attractive and robust structure was therefore chosen in the form of an innovative wood-concrete composite construction in a protected design, which, together with the steel railing and a filling of branched robinia rods, blends harmoniously into the natural surroundings.
