New cycle and footpath bridge over the Murg in Baiersbronn
Sustainable connection to the 2025 Garden Show
Description
The municipality of Baiersbronn is building a new bridge over the River Murg for the Baden-Württemberg Garden Show 2025. It replaces a narrow footbridge and utilises the foundations of a temporary diversion bridge – a resource-saving approach. The bridge connects Neumühleweg with Murgtalstraße and is primarily intended for pedestrians and cyclists, but is also designed for single-lane vehicle traffic in accordance with LM1.
The single-span structure spans the Murg river over 23.48 metres and consists of a timber-concrete composite system with a varying width of 5.50 to 6.00 metres. Glulam beams (GL28h) and an in-situ concrete slab (C 45/55) form the superstructure. Kerven and Halfen connectors ensure a force-fit connection. Thanks to the dynamic cross-sectional shape, few ramps are required.
A bituminous surface protects the carriageway; concrete overhangs and sealing systems protect the timber construction from moisture – without any chemical wood preservatives (service class 2). The railing consists of flat steel posts with stainless steel cables and a recessed handrail. A gas pipe from the Baiersbronn municipal works is also integrated.
