The bridge served as an important link between the K32 district road and the nearby hiking car park and acted as a \u2018gateway\u2019 to the popular tourist destination of the national park and the nearby Edersee lake. Due to its dilapidated condition, the existing bridge was temporarily restricted to lower loads and was ultimately closed to motor vehicle traffic altogether by massive boulders.<\/p><p>The new bridge is intended to restore the original function and, in addition to tourist traffic, also carry forestry vehicles weighing up to 12 tonnes.
