The design and width of the existing structure did not comply with the current recommendations for cycling facilities and had to be replaced.<br \/><br \/>In order to optimise the ramp inclinations and the freeboard, the new replacement structure was designed as a trough bridge. Special design requirements resulted from the bridge&#8217;s location in the spa park: the shape of the bridge takes into account the forces in the supporting structure. The abutments also take up this shape. A lateral inclination of the main girders provides additional protection of the outer sides and a widening of the deck towards the centre of the bridge.
